Product Description
With the Rosetta Stone Hebrew Personal Edition Level 1, you have the same new language-instruction techniques at your disposal that the U.S. State Dept, the Peace Corps and NASA use!

Amazon.com Product Description
Learn a new language with the award-winning method used by the U.S. State Department to train diplomats. Proven effective by NASA astronauts, Peace Corps volunteers, and millions of students worldwide, the Rosetta Stone Language Library teaches new languages faster and easier than ever before.

We all learn our childhood language by associating new words and phrases with the world around us. The Rosetta Stone method replicates this process by presenting vivid, real-life images to convey the meaning of each new phrase. Instead of translating, memorizing, and studying rules of grammar, you actually learn to think in the new language. Vocabulary and grammar are integrated systematically, leading to everyday proficiency.

The Rosetta Stone Level I program offers a comprehensive course of study for beginning learners, leading to intermediate proficiency. The program contains over 3,500 real-life images and phrases in 92 lessons and more than 250 hours of mastery instruction in listening comprehension, reading, speaking, and writing. Systematic structure teaches vocabulary and grammar naturally, without lists and drills. There are reviews, exercises, and tests for every lesson with automated tutorials throughout the program. (Ages 6 and older)

5 out of 5 stars Rosetta Stone Hebrew   January 4, 2007

This is a wonderful program, lots of fun, but could use just a LITTLE more English to figure out what each chapter is trying to teach.

2 out of 5 stars Not the Fastest Way to Learn a Language   September 11, 2006

Fairfield's marketing is much better than their engineering. There are eight units with 11 or 12 lessons each. Each lesson has 10 parts. And each part has 4 phrases or sentences, arranged as picture (or cartoon) squares (sometimes related, sometimes not). In the preview for each each part, one selects a square and the phrase is uttered. Unfortunately the Hebrew is plastered on top of the picture, thereby preventing certain details from being decipherable. There is no English translation provided, nor are there any grammar lessons. One cannot click on a word to get its meaning. So what happens is that one has to make a guess as to the meaning, which may or may not be correct. In the guided exercises, the program rapidly goes through each of the four pictures, then you get quizzed. In the speaking section, you must mimic the speaker as best you can--but the Hebrew phrase is not displayed on the screen. Even worse, the voice frequency display does not readily halt. All in all, this product needs a lot of work before I will recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Great Program for Learning Hebrew   March 22, 2006

Although I did know some basic Hebrew, this program has begun to teach me Modern Hebrew in a very effective way. I definitely would recommend it.

Some issues: currently there is no Level 2. Even after completing Level 1, I think I will have a long way to go and will have to search out other learning approaches. Although it runs in an MS window, I don't think it is a real Windows program, so when going through the typing exercises, it gets glitchy at times. And some of the user interfaces are a bit awkward. For example in the typing exercises, it would be nice to be able to hit Enter to submit your response, but instead you have to switch over to the mouse to push a button. Also, to switch activities or lessons, there is no menu bar -- you have to hit their "Go Back" button.

But overall, I am learning to speak Hebrew.

5 out of 5 stars Works great as a Review   January 10, 2005

I studied Hebrew in college for 2 years, so I cannot comment on using this software as the primary way to learn Hebrew. I bought this program because I wanted to review Hebrew and improve my understanding of the language. I found it did just that. It works very well when used as a review for somebody who has already taken some Hebrew classes and is familiar with Hebrew grammar. I can understand Hebrew better than I did in college. I also picked up some new vocabulary. The downside is that you have to repeat drills for each lesson. However, it tends to sink in ratherly naturally after a while. There really is no easy way to learn a foreign language, but I think using this program on a continuous basis does help (at least in improving understanding).

This program would greatly complement a beginning Hebrew class if grammar lessons were developed around the software's curriculum.
